Originally inspired by the Hang drum, Mandala Music is an easy to play musical instrument for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. The main window consists of eight keypads arranged in a circle or mandala around a central pad (corresponding to the "ding" on a Hang drum). Tapping on a keypad produces a tone. Tapping multiple keypads produces multiple tones. The instrument contains 9 two-oscillator FM synthesizers providing a wide range of sound and effects, from soothing to bizarre.

Where a Hang drum is tuned to one and only one scale when it is made, any of the thirty-three preset musical scales used in first-generation Hang drums can be mapped to the mandala.

Wow!
Play beautiful music on this geometrically designed instrument. An incredible amount of flexibility for sounds and scales gives you an almost perfect musical instrument for the iphone/touch. I have a dozen musical instrument apps for my Touch, but this is currently my favourite. I hook it up to my stereo and fill the room with warm soundscapes. Enjoy! Its the price of a coffee!!!!
Does not work
Too many bugs, does not work as expected. The bottom slider do not move at all so volume is too low and all the params are uneditable. Also 9 FM synths are fixed to one timbre and are editable only in pitch. Also this app stopped producing any sounds within 5-10 minutes. Please refund me. Не работает как надо.
If you dont know about Mandala music
Maybe this app is not for you. I knew a little, but unlike newer apps like the Dulcimer, the entrancing iKoto, or the energising Tingalin, this is not one you can start playing and fall in love instantly, even if you dont know what youre doing. The good part is that it has potential. In the Settings of your i-Device, e.g., you can programme the app to play a particular kind of Mandala Musical tradition (I chose Japans Noh to start with). Unfortunately, the timbre is so distant-sounding, that there is no chance to enjoy playing around with it further. This is true of all the settings. Its a brand new app. Its cheap too. I feel bad in giving it such a low-rating given the hard work and expectations of the developers, but this is definitely one which could be improved in future updates.
Fantastic!
A must have. This app makes it easy to create beautiful musical compositions whether youre a musician or just musical. The tones are sweet and the sound is rich. Hours of fun.
